YOUTH

ACADEMY

Mission Statement

We recognise that every single student who attends SA Youth Academy is unique, with their own special strengths, talents, and abilities. Whilst we teach the skills of dance, acting and song, we also concentrate on each young person as an individual.

SA Youth Academy is committed to providing and promoting a non-discriminate environment where all individuals are encouraged to develop their skills and achieve their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

Aim

With the help of our team of dedicated teachers, students will learn practical skills in the three main genres of dance, acting and song whilst also gaining confidence, good communication skills and discipline. All within a fun, safe and nurturing environment.

Objectives

. Acquire techniques in dance, acting and singing.

. Gain an awareness of physical fitness and mental discipline.

. Develop personal and social skills and qualities to enhance their lives.

. Allow each individual to embrace and develop their natural talents.

. Inspire students to express themselves using creativity and imaginative thought.

. Gain practical performance experience in different genres and spaces.

DANCE

The most vibrant of all art forms, dance is centered on creating students with greater physical control and awareness. Many styles of jazz will be taught at the suitable level for the age range of the group. Classes will be in keeping with modern trends and teach techniques that are vital to any performer.

ACTING

Acting is a fundamental element of the performing arts. No Song, Dance or (of course) Dramatic work is complete without characterisation and appropriate emotional content. We aim to build confidence in presentation and public speaking and encourage imaginative thought in all our students.

SINGING

All styles of music will be covered, with equal emphasis placed on technique, style, and performance. Everyone has a voice - the role of the Youth Academy is to find and maximise the potential of that voice.

PERFORMANCE

All students will work towards our annual show, which means they will benefit from working with other class groups in ensemble numbers and gain experience of the rehearsal process. The performance takes place in a local, professional theatre to large, live audiences. This is the best way to gain the fantastic experience of performing; students are part of the whole process - from dress runs, to technical rehearsals, then the excitement of the actual performance.

EXAMINATIONS

Students have the option of sitting external group examinations during the autumn term. These exams are optional and alternate annually between Dance (IDTA) and Performance Art or Musical Theatre (Trinity).
